A clothier searches the land for plants that can be used to create cloth, and the hides of creatures that can be used to create leather. Clothiers use these materials at Clothier Stations, one of the many tannin tables found in cities and towns throughout Tamriel. Here they can refine their raw resources, improve existing items, research various traits, and deconstruct armor they have found throughout their journeys.
Skilled clothiers are always seeking to learn new techniques to better their skills at the tannin table. Finding special crafting books is the key to learning new Racial Styles, and researching Traits allows for the creation of higher quality clothing and armor.

- Deconstructing dropped items or those crafted by others is the best way to gain inspiration and level up
- Putting points into Unraveling will increase your chances to extract special tannins, and is therefore highly advisable
- Finding leather may be harder than cloth, as you must defeat enemies for it.
- Start with your Research as soon as possible, the best crafted sets require many traits researched per piece.

Improving an item with a Tannin increases the effective item level by 3. For example, a white quality Flax Robe at level 16 will, once improved with Hemming, have an effective item level of 19. Improving it again with Embroidery, will make the effective item level 22. You will notice in the Weapon and Armor tables that the 上級 value at level 16 is the same as ノーマル at level 22. This is important to note, since several Crafted Sets have break points where their bonuses increase based upon "effective level". Note: The effective item level increases by 2 instead of 3 beginning at VR1.

Leveling up Clothier can be a quick affair if you have the assistance of a fellow crafter.
Deconstruction always grants more inspiration than creation and yields materials. Items made by another player gives the most inspiration, enhanced with higher level items, better item quality, with the presence of traits such as "Intricate" items.
- Find a crafting partner who is near your crafting level.
- Each partner creates waist, belts, epaulets & arm cops for the maximum level as possible in the following progression: 4, 16, 26, 36, 46, Champion: 10, 40, 80, 100
- Trade the items to each other.
- Deconstruct the sashes/belts & epaulets/arm-cops made by the other person.
You may also craft writs to not only obtain experience, but also gain special tannins and other items.
